The quarter Jan-Mar 2011 witnessed an increase of air traffic by 20.9% to 14.3 million in Indian airline domestic market. Jet Airways leads the pack with a market share of 25.4 percent (Jet Airways and jet Lite combined) followed by Kingfisher airlines with 19.9 percent share. Low-cost carrier IndiGo Air ranked third with 19.5 percent.

The lean period of March also witnessed a decline in the seat facror of all the airline carriers. Jet Airways saw its seat factor in March declining to 69.2 percent from 76.5 percent in February, while JetLite saw it fall to 76.7 percent from 80.2 percent. Seat factor for Kingfisher Airlines fell sequentially to 80.4 percent from 83.6 percent, while SpiceJet saw loads falling to 75.4 percent from 81 percent.

The growth story of Indian aviation sector and robust domestic market potential have been the reasons for the rise in air traffic, however the load factor is a seasonal eventuality and based on the routes operated by the Airlines.
