Cheap flights to Singapore from Kolkata

Back to news

Flying Calcutta – Singapore might soon become cheaper than Bangalore or Mumbai or even Delhi. Singapore Airlines is planning to introduce a low-cost airline and a Kolkata-connection is very much on the cards. With a focus on key destinations of South-East Asia, cities in India are also on the radar for introducing low-cost air-tickets for the airliner.

Air India Express, India’s Low cost carrier operates to Singapore four days a week to which Singapore Airlines is losing passengers. Similarly AirAsia and China Eastern also operate low-cost flights to Singapore, which are preferred Economic class carriers. To beat this competition, Singapore Airlines is thinking of this cheap flights initiative.

This comes in wake of increased travellers to Singapore in the last year, where the beneficiaries are mostly Thai or Chinese carriers as they halt at Singapore for passengers. This added with the reduction of flights from 6 to 4 a week by Singapore Airlines last year has resulted in a loss of revenue. Also, the carrier replaces the Boeing 777–200 with Airbus 330, which resulted in reduction of economy class seats from 293 to 255. The airline is planning to revive its strategy considering the losing ground in the fast growing geography of India.
